SMS

Welcome to my text message (SMS) collection. I maintain an archive of quotes and different texts that you can send as an SMS or text message. When you visit my site, a random “Text Message of the Day (TMOTD)” will be generated on the sidebar.

Text Message of the Day screen

If you have a Symbian-based (Nokia and other phones using Symbian OS), Pocket PC, or Windows Mobile cell phone, you can auto-magically capture the TMOTD by installing the freely available QuickMark barcode software into your mobile phone. The QuickMark software will interpret the barcode into your mobile phone and allow you to send it as an SMS / text message without having the need to type it on your mobile phone.

Using Quickmark on a mobile phone with Symbian OS (Nokia and others with Symbian)

Your Symbian OS mobile phone should have a camera. Not all mobile phones are supported, for a list of supported mobile phones please visit the Quickmark or Nokia web site. Once you have installed the Quickmark software, capturing the text message is easy as “abc”.

Open the Quickmark software on your mobile phone. Upon opening the software, it will start accessing your mobile phone’s camera.

Quickmark initializes camera

When the Quickmark software is ready, point your mobile phone’s camera to the “TMOTD barcode” image. You can use the zoom in/out slider (see figure below) to make sure that the barcode is totally visible.

Once the barcode is approximately within the Quickmark capture screen, it will take a second or two for the software to interpret the barcode and it will show the equivalent capture text message. You can then click on your mobile phone’s right button (one below the word “Select” on your screen) and select “Send / via Text Message”.

Quickmark converted text

After clicking on “Send / Via text message”, you will see that the next screen is already the “Send Text Message” screen. Now you can TxTu your friends / family members or whoever you want the “Text Message of the Day”.

Send text message

That’s, now you can visit this site anytime and capture a “Text Message of the Day” to TxTu your friends send via SMS. Happy Texting!!!

Note:

There may be other 2D barcode software available on the Internet that will work on this site so please try to share the info if you know of one such software. I used Quickmark because it’s the only software I know that works for both Symbian and Windows Mobile. There is an open-source mobile Java (J2ME) QRcode 2D barcode software known as “Zebra Crossing” or Zxing but it’s still in the early development stage. Nokia also has it’s own 2D Barcode reader available on their new mobile phones but it doesn’t have a feature for sending the scanned data via SMS.

I’m currently making some site modifications to allow you to capture any existing text message on my archive. I’m also encoding my other text messages so stay tuned. If you want to share a text message to the archive please post them as comments and I will take a look at them.

Thanks.
