Yahoo! Go for the Nokia N80 Internet Edition

Filed under: Mobile by txtu on Apr 30, 2007

I have managed to upgrade my Nokia N80 mobile phone to a Nokia N80 Internet Edition cellphone ever since Nokia made the upgrade available on their website. By using the Nokia Software Updater, my mobile phone has transformed to a Nokia N80ie in just a flash!

Now that the wireless home network is up and running, I quickly reconfigured my cell phone’s Wifi settings to be able to connect to the Internet. I wanted to install the other software like Yahoo! Go that is available for the Nokia N80ie.

One of the software I am itching to try out is Yahoo’s mobile software called Yahoo! Go. Take a look at http://go.yahoo.com for details.

Once I got my Nokia N80ie connected to the home network via WiFi, I clicked on the Internet / Download icon on my mobile phone. Here’s a screenshot of the downloadable software:

I clicked on Yahoo! Go icon and installation of the Yahoo software started. Once the installation was finished. Setup of my existing Yahoo account was very easy and worked like a breeze.

Yahoo! Go provided several services like email, messenger, addressbook, photo, calendar, tasks on the cell phone. You can synchronize your email, addressbook, photo, calendar, and tasks between Yahoo! and your cell phone.

Here are some screenshots of Yahoo! Go:

I was just interested in access to my Yahoo! email account and Yahoo Messenger so these are the ones I enabled. After several days of using it on my Nokia N80ie, I have found it to be such a useful software since I don’t have to open my Notebook just to do email and YM with my family and friends.

The Yahoo! email module could be configured to automatically connect on a regular basis to check for email. This feature allows me to be alerted of new incoming email on my cell phone. Spam handling allows you to mark and delete spam email right on your cell phone (very great feature since most people get spammed nowadays).

Using the Yahoo! Go version of the Yahoo! Messenger on my Nokia N80 cell phone has been one of the most satisfying exploration of Yahoo! Go. The most important features of Yahoo! Messenger has been added on the mobile phone version. Although It would have been nice to selectively control who can see me online since I would want to select them depending on the time of day. In fact I think Yahoo! should have a feature in YM to automatically set online status by time of day per Yahoo Id.

Overall, Yahoo! Go is great and is a very indespensible tool for my mobile life. I’m looking forward to its upcoming new version.
