Nokia N80ie firmware update

N80 Version screenMy recently upgraded Nokia N80 to Nokia N80 Internet Edition cell phone has a firmware version of 4.0632.0.38. I found out that the Nokia N80ie has a new firmware whose version is 4.0707.0.7. and is now available for download using the Nokia Software Updater.

So I decided to connect my Nokia N80ie to my notebook and execute the Nokia Software Updater (NSU) to start upgrading my cell phone with the new firmware. I did a backup of my phone memory and then continued with the upgrade. After some minutes waiting for the process to finish, I now have a new firmware on my Nokia N80ie mobile phone.

For those of you who also own a Nokia N80ie cellphone, let me first warn you about other people’s experiences about the Nokia N80ie 4.0707.0.7 upgrade.

If you still decide to upgrade, Read on to know more about my own experiences on the Nokia N80ie firmware upgrade.

One of the very first things about my new 4.0707.0.7 Nokia N80ie firmware is that Internet telephony or VoIP now works all the time in my home wireless network. Previously, I was having VoIP connection problems with my Nokia N80ie mobile phone and the DD-WRT firmware version v23 SP2 std edition. I think Nokia has now fixed the malformed packets that I have read about.

I also noticed that I have not experienced any memory full problems when using the Nokia web browser on my Nokia N80ie. I have also observed a faster response in web page rendering using the web browser.

My firmware upgrade in not without any glitches. When I did the upgrade, my Yahoo Go! setup stopped working properly. I had to remove and re-install Yahoo Go! on my Nokia N80ie to have it working again on my cell phone.

All in all, I am quite satisfied with the performance of the firmware version 4.0707.0.7 on my Nokia N80ie mobile phone. More on this later.
