Mobile phone with foldable display
If you’ve read about polymer foldable displays before, well here’s something that is quite interesting. The very first mobile phone with a foldable display is set to go into production and will be available soon.
Philips actually introduced the concept of foldable displays back in 2005 by creating a prototype called Readius® . After several years of research and preparation, Readius is set to go into production this year. The new mobile phone product will be introduced at the World Mobile Congress this February in Barcelona, Spain.

The Readius mobile phone features a rollable display optimized for reading pointing to the fact that the display is actually larger than the device itself. You can use it for reading for 30 hours without battery charge.
The mobile phone has 3G HSDPA tri-band allowing for worldwide use for calls and high speed instant updates from personally selected news sources, special services and email.
It has microSD High Capacity storage so keeping your favorite information and eBooks won’t be a problem. Other features of Readius include audio capabilities (such as MP3) for podcasts, audio books and music.
This actually opens up a lot of possibilities in the future because the footprint of the mobile phone is not a limiting factor anymore for larger displays. It won’t be long before colored displays come out allowing for a richer user experience.
Once this technology goes into mainstream and mobile networks start to open up, we will probably see the end of books and newspapers as we know it today.
Even our children who now owns mobile phones will soon be using them as their game console/computer, reading books at school, reading magazines and newspapers, watching TV/movies …
