How to start your own blog or weblog (part 1)

You’re probably reading this because you are trying to find information on how to setup your own blog / weblog / personal site or online journal. People have many reasons why they would want to setup their own web site or blog. What every they are, here are steps on how you can start your own blog.

To setup your own blog, you can choose from either the free or paid services. Obviously there are trade-offs between the two types but whether the differences matters will depend on the purpose of why you want to setup your own blog or web site.

I suggest that as a first step, you write down the reasons why you would want to have your own blog. The reasons can vary. Some people want it because it’s the “IN” thing, while others want to start their own blog to make money.

I actually started setting up my web sites because I want to learn how to do it and I want to put up a community site for Ortigas Center. Since I own the ortigas.com domain, I decided to put a map of the Ortigas Center business district online. To be able to recuperate some of the expenses I figured I should put ads on the site.

Now I am seriously considering to make a living out of it because I believe that I can actually earn a decent living by blogging and putting up sites where people can actually get information and read useful content.

It’s actually great for me since I enjoy it and I just don’t find it as mere working to make money. For instance since, I like playing cell phone games, I created a site that focuses on mobile games and Java mobile development at www.javamidlet.com .

Once you’ve list down your priorities, determine how much is your budget or the amount you are willing to spend monthly to have your own web site.

The first things you’ll need to start your own blog or web site would be a computer and an Internet connection. On my next post, I’ll tell you something about how to shop for a computer and choose an Internet service provider.
