Vimicro Launches Linux-Based Open Mobile Platform
Vimicro Corporation, a company that designs and manufacture mixed-signal multimedia products, today announced at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona the launch of its most recent open mobile platform, Vinno-III-Linux, based on the Linux operating system, and the addition of two new Vimicro Mobile Multimedia Processors, the VC0848 and VC0878, to the company’s product line.
Vinno-III-Linux platform is based on Vimicro’s newly launched Vinno-III application processor running popular open source Linux OS. Along with traditional, strong multimedia processing capabilities enabled by Vimicro chips, the platform also integrates useful applications such as office file reader, WAP and MMS. Vimicro’s new Mobile Multimedia Processors enhance the user experience in video, audio, camera and file transfer when adopted for basic mobile phones.
About Vinno-III-Linux and VC0848 / VC0878
Vinno-III-Linux features QVGA touch screen, 3 mega pixel camera, mpeg4/H.263 video, stereo mp3, AAC, AAC+ playback, USB 2.0 HS, U-disk, FM radio, Bluetooth, etc. Vinno-III-Linux can be adopted to design both 2.5G and 3G smart phones and beyond.
VC0848 and VC0878 are capable of hardware mpeg4/H.263, 3M pixel camera, stereo ADC/DAC and headphone PA. They are also capable of decoding multiple audio file formats such as mp3, AAC, AAC+. VC0848 and VC0878 can provide direct interface to USB 2.0, NAND flash, SD/MMC/T-flash. Additionally, VC0878 has a composite TV output as well.
