Use your mind to control your games
It looks like we are one step closer to using our brains to directly control the games that we play. If this product / contraption gets widely accepted, we may be looking at the reality sooner than we think. Imagine how fast we would be able to react to game stimuli and no more strain on our hands.
A startup company called Emotiv will soon be releasing it’s new product called Emotiv EPOC. Developers can make use of the Emotiv API SDK to interface our brain with the computer.

The Emotiv EPOC together with the SDK gives developers unparalleled access to a user’s mind using the latest advancements in Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) neuro-technology. The SDK offers several detection interfaces:
- The Affectiv™ suite measures discreet emotional states.
- The Cognitiv™ suite detects conscious thoughts.
- The Expressiv™ suite can identify facial expressions in real-time.
With these SDK a developer can create an brain interface for games allowing for faster response and a greater immersion level. Although it looks like it’s a one-way interface, meaning we can also send commands to the computer, it still presents a whole lot of possibilities.
Emotiv is currently pre-selling the headset for $299 which is scheduled to be released this March 2008. For more information, you can visit the Emotiv web site.
