At last Microsoft has given in to public pressure to extend supporting Windows XP. Microsoft will continue supporting Windows XP until 2014 by providing security patches and updates. But it seems that Microsoft will still be discontinuing the sale of Windows XP after June 2008.

It’s actually good news for me since I use Windows XP but I don’t want to migrate to Windows Vista simply because it is too much of a resource hog. With news of Nokia open sourcing the Symbian OS, maybe we can all have a PC Suite version running flawlessly on Linux after all it’s the only obstacle that I have since most of the PC games I play is now well supported by the recently released Wine 1.0.

The Ubuntu team has released a version of Ubuntu for Mobile Internet Devices (MID) based on Ubuntu Hardy Heron. The Ubuntu MID version is optimized for mobile internet devices that are increasingly being available on the market.

Maybe we should start the countdown on how long before someone starts installing Ubuntu MID on an Asus EeePC. It would be cool to see it running on the EeePC. And while you’re at it, why not the Nokia N810 as well.

The LiMo Foundation, a consortium of companies in the mobile industry, has announced the several mobile phones that uses the LiMo Platform™. The Limo Platform is an open mobile platform based on Linux software. Initial manufacturers that confirm Limo Platform enabled mobile phones are LG Electronics, Motorola, NEC, Panasonic Mobile Communications and Samsung.
